![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Whereas most environmental films portray villains as nothing but greedy humans, Lady Eboshi is shown to have the interests of her fellow villagers as her top priority. In Princess Mononoke, a young prince named Ashitaka (Billy Crudup) leaves his village in search of a cure for a demonic curse, and as a result finds himself caught in the middle of a war between a group of forest gods lead by Moro (Gillian Anderson) and her human daughter San Mononoke (Claire Danes), and the human village called Irontown who are clearing their forest as a means to survive lead by Lady Eboshi (Minnie Driver) and Jiko-bō (Billy Bob Thornton).Īs much as I’ve complained about Hayao Miyazaki being biased against humanity with his themes of environmentalism conflicting with technology, this is by far his most mature film when it comes to his themes as well as subject matter. ![]()
